A rotating titanium brush for cleaning of dental implants is presented by Tigran Technologies today at the EAO (European Association for Osseointegration) congress in Athens.
The Tigran™ PeriBrush™ is a patented, new instrument for treating patients with infections around dental implants, so called peri-implantitis. The rotating titanium brush not only significantly reduces treatment time as opposed to traditional manual treatment, it also allows for easier reach of both narrow cavities and implant threads and hence improves treatment results.
Many dentists experience unsatisfactory cleaning results with the traditional method of using a surgical hand tool, as it is both ineffective and time-consuming. The titanium brush shows excellent results in getting the implant threads clean without damaging the implant surface, something that other methods often do. A thorough cleaning of the implant is key in a successful treatment of patients with peri-implant defects.
“The PeriBrush has a gentle polishing effect deep into the structure of the implants surface, which makes it ideal for cleaning dental implants”, comments Dr Dirk Duddeck, University of Cologne.
“Using the titanium brush for cleaning dental implants is a real time- and cost-saver for the dental practice. A reduced treatment time per patient means higher profitability for our customers", says Björn Sellert, CEO Tigran Technologies AB.
Following a thorough cleaning procedure, the jawbone around the implant needs to be stabilized. Tigran's main product is a bone regenerative material based on titanium. The PTG (Porous Titanium Granules) is used for rebuilding jawbone resorbed due to peri-implantitis and other dental illnesses.
The number of implant installments per year is estimated to approximately 11 million1 (2010).
About 16%2 of dental implant patients are affected by peri-implantitis, which if left untreated can lead to implant loss.
