FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Tigran's products are not for sale in the U.S.

What is Tigran’s bone regeneration material made of?

-It is made from commercially pure titanium (grade 1), the same material that is used for dental implants.

What about the porosity?

The material consists of granules with a porosity of about 80 %.

How does it work?

- Tigran™ PTG is irregularly shaped and manufactured using commercially pure titanium. The granules are between 0.7 mm and 1.0 mm. When they are mixed with the patient’s blood or with a saline solution the granules attach to each other due to the capillary forces. The titanium surface is very thrombogenic, which facilitates the formation of a stabilizing blood clot around the granules. With their thorough porosity the granules create optimal scaffolding for bone regeneration.

Is this material resorbed?

- No, unlike other materials, the titanium granules are non-resorbable and hold their original volume, which results in a predictable and optimal end result.”

How is the initial stability achieved?

- The irregularly formed granules interlock, which provides a high grade of primary stability.

What color is it?

- Tigran™ PTG comes in grey and white. The grey may be used for most applications, whereas the white may be more suitable in certain aesthetic applications.

Is it possible to drill through the granules after the healing period is completed?

- Yes, you can use common drilling protocol. Experienced dentists relate it to drilling in the mandible.

How much clinical experience is there with the titanium granules?

- Tigran™ porous titanium granules have been used in treating orthopedic patients since the 1980s and in treating dental patients since the middle of the 1990s.

Is there any documentation to obtain?

-Yes there is. See Science Evidence for the most recent updates.

Are the products CE marked?

- Yes, the products are CE-marked.

What can I tell my patients about the material?

- That this material is the same type as that used in most dental implants for more than forty years. There is no risk of spreading deceases because no material from humans or animals has been used.

How do the granules stick together?

- The granules with their large titanium surfaces make the blood clot quickly and bind the granules together. In addition, the irregular shape of the granules and the capillary forces make them stick to each other.

Do you need any special tools for applying the granules?

- No, you can use your regular tooth care instruments.

How can the bone grow through and around the granules?

-The granules are completely biocompatible. The large titanium surface of the porous granules works like an osteoconductive material and creates a scaffolding through which the bone cells can grow.

Is the material ready to use?

-Yes, you only need to open the sterile container and place the product directly into the prepared cavity.
