Sinus lift

Tigran's products are not for sale in the U.S.

Sinus lift is suitable for toothless patients with such atrophy in the upper jaw that insufficient bone volume exists to anchor a tooth implant. Tigran™ porous titanium granules are placed at the bottom of the sinus for bone strengthening.
The sinus lift can be completed in one or two steps. In the one-step procedure the implant is installed during the initial surgery, while in the two-step procedure an attempt is made to create new bone in the sinus bottom before installing the implant during the second operation 6–9 months later. In both cases the implant can normally be loaded between three and six months after installation.

Studies show that titanium granules make the one step operation possible

A study conducted by Assistant Professor Hans Bystedt at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm and at Visby Lasarett with Tigran™ PTG on sixteen patients, shows that in many cases it is possible to fix the implant screws directly when the granules are applied, even if the dentine is thinner than normally recommended for 1-step operations. Thus, it should be possible for more patients to undergo bone regeneration and implant installation at the same time. This means not only that the actual operation requires considerably less time and resources, but also that the surgery causes the patient considerably less discomfort. Moreover, an operation with porous titanium granules generally proceeds faster than with traditional methods, where bone fragments are often taken from the hip or the jawbone for use when forming new bone in sinus.

An ongoing multi-center study on about forty patients is underway with participation by the University hospitals in Gothenburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Lund. The study will be completed and published during 2012.
